I'm interested in the practical problems that take up a business's time: copying the same information between tools, chasing down a detail, or repeating a task that could be handled automatically.
I start by understanding how the work gets done. Then I look for a useful change, whether that's connecting two systems, organizing information, or building a small tool around an existing process.
The painting-company project is a good example: take a daily data-entry task off someone's plate and give them up to half an hour back. That's the kind of result I care about.
